I am so very sorry to hear about Pat's condition. I had no idea that she was so very ill. As you know, I'm in England, so visiting is out of the question. Please, though, can you send her all my love. I have such wonderful memories of my time with your family. Despite the many years that have passed, the memories remain vivid, and a source of real happiness. And this, not least because of Pat's joy and exuberance: her glorious laugh abides with me, as do her enormous kindness and joie de vivre. Please give my love, too, to the rest of your family.
